On September 15, an exchange titled “Salam ASEAN” (Hello ASEAN) was held at the National Monument in Merdeka Square, Central Jarkata.
This is a cultural event held by young diplomats from the Indonesian Junior Diplomatic Academy in commemoration of the 46th anniversary of ASEAN this year.
Hundreds of public figures, high-school and college students, and representatives of ASEAN took part in the event.
Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs, Dr. AKP Mochtan, said this initiative of the ASEAN young diplomats is an excellent and fun way of reaching out to the youth. With determination, desire and technology, their involvement in raising awareness about ASEAN is instrumental to move our young people closer to the ASEAN Community in 2015.
The highlight was the formation of the map of ASEAN by at least 4,000 people holding hands around the National Monument.
Besides, in the framework of “Salam ASEAN”, a series of cultural activities, such as aerobics performances by high-school and colleges students and the photo contest on ASEAN, will be organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs./.
