Vietnam and Laos combat engineers have benefited tremendously from defence co-operation over the past years, especially in training.

This assessment was announced at a meeting between Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Khanh, and Head of the Engineering Department of the Lao People’s Army, Colonel Singsavat Phommasak, in Hanoi on September 10.

They noted that each year the two sides work together to train many officials specialising in road and bridge construction, and engineering lecturers at regiment levels.

The Vietnam side has also helped Laos build a motorbike service station while providing necessary equipment and a training course for station staff.

During the meeting, Colonel Singsavat Phommasak briefed his host on the outcomes of his working sessions with different agencies of Vietnam’s Ministry of Defence.

He said in the future, the two sides should strengthen delegation exchanges at all levels to learn from each other’s experiences, especially in research, rescue and disaster relief.

The visiting colonel also expressed his hope to share experience in commanding, soldier management and training, and help people build infrastructure and develop the economy, especially in mountainous and remote areas.
