The Making the World Cleaner Campaign was initiated by Australia since 1993 and United Nations Environment Programme launches on the global scale in the 3rd week of September every year. The campaign has become an annual international event in the field ofenvironment attracting the participation of hundreds of millions people from more than 130 countries.
Efforts for global environment
The 2013 campaign entitled Our Place – Our Planet – Our Responsibility will be launched on a global scale from September 20 to 22. This theme is the following contents of the 2011 and 2012 campaigns, in response to the World Environment Day with the theme “Think before you eat and help save our planet” which is launched by the United Nations.
The Campaign aims at highlighting the role of individual in the common activities of the community, thus raising awareness of the individual and the community on environmental responsibility and contributing to the efforts for global environment. Vietnam has participated in the campaign since 1994, up to now, the ministries, agencies, localities and mass population have responded enthusiastically to this event. In 2013, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in collaboration with the Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee will hold a ceremony to launch the national campaign on September 21 in Da Lat.
Let’s protect the environment by simple action
Recently, many localities in the whole country such as Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Long An, Hau Giang and Hai Duong have actively deployed practical activities in response to the Making the World Cleaner Campaign. For example, meetings in response to the campaign, organizing environmental contests , scientific conferences, parades, for environmental protection andto environment protectionmovements.
Besides, activities of the dissemination, advocacy, education for officials and citizens to raise awareness about environmental protection will be promoted. Social pressure to condemn the acts of polluting environment and of violating the law on environmental protection will be encouraged.The use of environmentally friendly technology and products, low fuel consumption, limit the use of raw materialcausing the greenhouse effect, polluting the environment will be promoted. Programs and projects on environmental protection, waste treatment and environmental improvements will be proposed and deployed.
For a green – clean – beautiful environment , everyone can join the campaign by simple action such asuse less plastic bags, save electricity and gas, litter garbage in right places and participate in environmental sanitation activities around living areas, popularize environmental protection for people in the family and community as well as condemn the act causing environmental pollution, bad habits of wasting natural resources and energy. Let’s protect the environment from simple activities in our living area. It will probably make the world cleaner.
