— A State funeral will be held for General Vo Nguyen Giap, who passed away on October 4, according to an announcement of the State Funeral Committee. The General’s coffin will lie in state at the National Morgue at No. 5, Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi. Mourners will pay respect to General Giap at the morgue as from 7:30 hr on October 12, and a memorial service will be held at the site as from 7:00 hr on October 13.
— State President Truong Tan Sang will take part in the 21st Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Bali, Indonesia on October 6-8. The President’s attendance at the meeting, which is at the invitation of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, will offer Vietnam a chance to boost regional cooperation to serve Vietnam’s economic restructuring and shifts towards new growth models.

— Road Department under the Ministry of Transport is drafting a circular lifting the barrier on restricting the use of motorbikes with engine size of 175cm 3 and up so that normal people can apply for licenses to ride them. Previously, the use of such motorbike is limited for those in state security and military forces only.

— Kobelco Eco-Solutions has opened a $30 million factory specializing in chemical, pharmaceutical and electronic materials at Long Duc Industrial Park in the southern province of Dong Nai, the second factory of the Japanese company in Vietnam after the inauguration of first one in the southern province of Long An last year.
Sports:
— The first international mountain marathon in Vietnam has been kicked off in Sa Pa in the northern province of Lao Cai with the participation of over 170 runners from 28 countries and regions attended the marathon, including 20 Vietnamese athletes. The event, sponsored by the Danish Embassy in collaboration with the Topas Ecolodge company and Danish Novo Nordisk firm, allows runners to choose to tackle a half-marathon (21 km), full marathon (42 km) or ultra-marathon (70 km) through local communes.
