Nguyen Van Dong from Trung Tu Commune, Ung Hoa District, Hanoi said that four km roads from his home to farm were repaired and newly constructed. In the past, after a heavy rain, 30 percent of the area of the commune was flooded. Compared to the previous period, it was a big change thanks to the implementation of the national target program on new rural area construction.

Ung Hoa District Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Xuyen said that the area of agricultural land in other communes was flooded such as Dong Long and Hoa Lam communes. Due to the lack of roads, electricity and drainage channels, agricultural production in the communes was affected. Therefore, when implementing the national target program on new rural area construction, the district determined to construct main roads, contributing to improving people’s living conditions. In addition, crop and livestock restructuring was implemented. “If farmers make a lot of agricultural products, it will be difficult to consume due to inconvenient transport,” Nguyen Van Xuyen said.

Due to the implementation of the national target program on new rural area construction, 45km communal roads, 35km village roads, 49.2km laneways and 40 bridges over canals were constructed. In particular, the district has implemented 41 projects with a total investment capital of VND250 billion to embank canals. Due to improved infrastructure, crops and livestock were transferred to farmers by the appropriate authorities in an easy manner.

Bad land and wetlands were renovated and invested to become high-quality commercial rice production areas. Clean vegetable areas and farms were upgraded, contributing to bringing higher economic value. In general, the district has planned commercial rice production areas with the area of over 2,000 hectares.

Nguyen Van Dong said that his family has four fishponds with a production of over three tonnes per year, 10 herds of breeding pigs, 100 pigs raised for food, over 500 chickens and 15 beeves. In addition, he also plants fruit-trees and short-term industrial crops. His family can reach incomes of hundreds of millions of dong each year.

Thanks to the implementation of the national target program on new rural area construction, the face of Trung Tu Commune, Ung Hoa District has changed. Income per unit of cultivated area increased continuously, reaching VND105 million and VND139 million per hectare in 2010 and 2012 respectively. Economic growth of the district reached an average of 13.5 percent per year. In the last five years, the district resolved jobs for over 21,000 rural workers.

The district has also paid more attention to health service. Medical facilities have been invested in modern machinery and equipment. The rural environment has been improved. In addition, the district constructed two waste treatment plants in Dong Lo Commune and Van Dinh Town./,
