In celebration the 40th anniversary of Vietnam and Japan diplomatic ties, Japanese cultural envoy and contemporary dancer Moriyama Kaiji is set to perform in Hanoi from November 13-15, announced the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam.

The event is within the framework of cultural exchange between the two nations.

Moriyama Kaiji has been appointed Japanese cultural envoy to Vietnam by the Culture Administration of Japan to strengthen cultural exchange between Japan and Vietnam.

Born in 1973, the contemporary dancer and choreographer Moriyama Jaiji began his career at a musical theatre company in Japan, and later moved to the world of professional choreography.


He has worked with a number of leading contemporary dance companies and innovative Japanese choreographers such as Kota Yamazaki, Yukio Ueshima and Aki Nagatani.


Moriyama Kaiji was acclaimed for his performance at the 2001 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where he was described as “One of the most talented dancers at this year’s Fringe.


In the framework of activities, dancer Moriyama will perform the Global Hand Washing Dance for children at Doan Thi Diem primary school in response to the World Hand Washing Day launched by UNICEF. Besides, the artist will also hold an exchange with students of the Vietnam Dancers College on the afternoon of November 14-15.


The Japanese Embassy in Vietnam hopes that this event will create a chance to help Vietnamese people to understand more about Japanese contemporary dance./.
