A Krempf flower species has been found in Hon Giao Island in the central province of Khanh Hoa after German botanist M. Krempf first discovered it over 100 years ago.
Local experts said the recent finding helps confirm that Krempf has not gone extinct yet in the country.
Krempf (Camellia krempfii (Gagnep.)Sealy) is a small flowering plant species and its flower has a diameter of 5.5 to 7cm.
In 1912, botanist M.Krempf collected the sample of Krempf flower in Khanh Hoa province but then the plant just had leaves and flower buds.
In 1942, based on M. Krempf’s finding, French scientist Ganepain gave Krempf the scientific name Thea krempfii Gagnep.
