By September 2013, Quang Ninh took the lead among 15 northern mountainous provinces and cities in the number of communes meeting new rural area criteria.
The result was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh in a meeting summarizing three years of implementing the national goal programme on building new rural areas in northern mountainous provinces and cites.
Accordingly, the region had 10 communes meeting new rural area criteria, in which eight communes are in Quang Ninh (80 percent).
Among the common 19 criteria, the region’s average criteria are 6.3, while the average rate of the whole country is 8.06. Provinces striving to achieve a higher rate than the country’s average are Quang Ninh (12.37/19), followed by Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen and Phu Tho./.
