The number of new companies in the city was up 7% year-on-year as of the middle of this month, including some 1,000 private firms, about 2,550 joint stock companies and 19,740 limited liability companies, the city’s Statistics Department reports.
Meanwhile, from October to the middle of this month alone, the number of newly-licensed enterprises was around 2,200, dipping 30 month-on-month but rising 55 year-on-year.
In a related development, the municipal Tax Department reports that 382 businesses stopped operation last month, slumping 80% month-on-month and representing 19.6% of the number of enterprises inactive in the same period in 2012.
Of these companies, there are 17 foreign direct investment enterprises, taking the total number of inactive firms of the foreign segment to 231 as of October. Compared to the same period in 2012, the number of foreign-invested companies halting operation was up 57, or 55%.
The situation is in contrast to the overall situation as the city had close to 18,900 companies stopping operation in January-October, falling 3.6% year-on-year. The number of inactive businesses is equivalent to 66.4% of that of new firms and those back to business after a period of operational halt in the ten-month period, according to the statistics department.
