(CPV) – Dr. Pham Duc Manh, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Administration of AIDS Control (VAAC) under the Ministry of Health, said on November 14 that Vietnam will produce the drug Methadone for use in drug addiction treatment programmes.
Mr. Manh said that the five domestic companies able to produce Methadone were assigned to ensure domestically produced Methadone sources for addictive substance treatment.
For methadone manufacture, one of five companies has researched and prepared methadone and it has been granted license to put into circulation in Vietnam by the Ministry of Health.
Thus, Vietnam’s pharmaceutical enterprises could domestically produce Methadone with the purchase of raw materials from foreign countries, for cheaper than Methadone is imported from abroad.
In 2015, provinces will be ready to use domestically produced methadone.
According to the VAAC, until September 30, 2013 Vietnam has had more than 218,400 cases of HIV, of whom, 65,700 have full-blown AIDS and 66,116 people have died of the disease./.
