Net melon cultivation techniques based on the hydroponic system, concurrently applying VietGAP process, the product of net melon from Nong Phat High-Tech Agriculture joint stock company is being favored by customers.
Introducing a net melon cultivation model under VietGAP process at the agricultural export exhibition in 2013.
With an area 1.000 m2 of net house, Nong Phat High-Tech Agriculture joint stock company (under HO CHI MINH High-Tech Agriculture zone) invested to grow net melons on coir under aquatic methods in the net house.
Accordingly, the coir of growing plants included the treated coconut fibers, soaked in water for 1 week, sand, earthworm fertilizers and a little phosphate fertilizer. In the process of plant growth and development, each day the workers in the net house provided nutrients for plants from 2-3 times, including the type of water-soluble fertilizer at the certain rate.
Mr. Phan Van Bach – a technician of Nong Phat said that net melon is a new crops variety in Vietnam, net melon requires high cultivation, care techniques than other traditional crops. “The most difficult thing is time of flowering, fruiting. A tree will give many flowers but planters must breaks off flowers, just maintain one bud of flower at 9th, 10th leaf counting from the root up, make sure the nutrients only focus on fruits. After 60-70 days, you can harvest, “- Mr. Bach said. In addition, due to planting in the net house which is isolated from insects, the flower open, workers have time to put bees into flowers on order to help the pollinated plants.
Mr. Bach said that net melon yield was 3 to 3.5 ton/1.000m2. With the price from 25,000-27,000 VND/ kg as now, he can obtain nearly 70 million VND. After deducting invested expenses of 30 million VND/1.000m2, he got profit of 40 million VND.
Due to production belonged VietGAP standards, products of net melon ensure safety for consumers’ health, no residues of harmful chemicals. Besides, net lemon is planted on automation system that only needs 2 care workers for a net melon garden with wider range 1.000m2.
Products of net melon occur in Big C, Co.opmart supermarket, some restaurants, hotels in Ho Chi Minh city. Furthermore, some enterprises order to export net melons. However, productivity of net melons still limit, the company doesn’t dare accept agreement.
