PANO – Search and rescue teams, as of December 1st, have not found body of 32-year-old Pham Van Thoi, in Xuan Yen Commune, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh province, who died at sea after rescuing fishermen in distress.
At 11am of November 30th, while buying fish at the coast of Xuan Yen commune, Thoi heard that a local trawler had been sunk.
Immediately, he and three locals Tran Van Tho, Tran Van Huong and Nguyen Van Hien, all from Xuan Yen, borrowed a boat to search for the troubled trawler.
In spite of strong winds and rough seas, they rescued two fishermen, Tran Van Thuong, 35, and Tran Van Truong, 19.
Because the two fishermen were unconscious, the rescuers did not know how many people were on board. They brought the distressed fishermen ashore and rushed back the accident scene to rescue any more victims.
Due to the bad weather, their boat was sunk. Tho, Huong and Hien swam back to the shore, but Thoi was overcome by the rough seas as he was too exhausted to swim.
Thoi was the bread winner for his elderly mother, his wife and two little children.
