The Ministry of Health has called on the people’s committees and health departments of provinces and cities to implement four projects this year under the National Target for Food Hygiene and Safety programme.
They are for improving capacity to manage food safety and quality and food quality testing systems, and preventing and combating food poisoning and transmission of diseases through food.

Garment exports forecast to rise by fifth
Viet Nam hopes to export garments and textiles worth US$18.8-$19.3 billion this year.
They were worth $15.1 billion last year, up 7.5 per cent year-on-year, the largest foreign currency earner, according to customs department.
Foreign firms accounted for $9.02 billion.

Workplace accidents kill more than 600
There were around 6,800 workplace accidents last year in which 606 people died and VND11 billion (US$524,800) worth of property was damaged, a conference in Ha Noi heard last week.
The number of fatalities was up by nearly 10 per cent from 2011.
But Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Bui Hong Linh said the actual number of accidents could have been 40,000.
The mining, construction, and chemical industries saw the highest number of serious accidents and fatalities.

Unbaked construction materials promoted
The Da Nang People’s Committee has ordered public works contractors to use 100 per cent unbaked construction materials starting from this year.
All construction works of nine stories and above have been ordered to use at least 30 per cent of unbaked construction materials until 2015, and 50 per cent after that.
