Vendor attacked by security guards awarded VND7.8-million

A street vendor in HCM City, who was attacked by several ward security guards, has received a VND7.8-million (USD3,710) compensation.

As reported earlier, on December 6, when Tinh was selling fruits and vegetables around a temporary market in HCM City, around ten security guards asked him to stop.


Somebody from the ward had reported Tinh and was asked to take his cart to the station so he could be questioned. He refused and and argument ensued.


Witnesses said that members of the security team who responded punched Tinh, who fell to the ground, after which it became a fight. Tinh was handcuffed and forced into a car, but he continued to resist and was beaten until he was unconscious.


Tinh was also fined VND150,000 for selling goods on streets.


The chairman of Ward 25 People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Quy, confirmed that two of the security guards who beat Tinh have been fired.
