The General Department of Fisheries said Vietnam's shrimp export value reached US$2.5 billion in 2013, up 33 percent year on year, thus becoming the third largest shrimp exporter in the world.
Although the global supply risks imbalances due to shrinking shrimp output in major producers like Thailand, India and China, the shift to white-leg shrimp production helped Vietnam increase both export volume and value. This was also the first time the country’s white-leg shrimp export exceeded that of giant tiger prawn.
