On February 25, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) had a working session with President of Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Mr. Le Hoang Quan on some projects that JICA has been funding. According to JICA’s evaluation, Japanese ODA has brought socio-economic efficiency.
Ho Chi Minh City received 4 Japanese ODA loans, two of which were related to environment. The completed project Ho Chi Minh City Water Environment Improvement Phase I has put Binh Hung wastewater treatment plant into operation with the capacity of nearly 150,000 cubic meter per day. The project contributed to the improvement of the city’s environment, especially Tau Hu – Ben Nghe canal improvement.
Mr. Le Hoang Quan said that the Ho Chi Minh City Water Environment Improvement Phase II is further developed with the aim of increasing the capacity of wastewater treatment plant from 150,000 cubic meters per day to 450,000 cubic meters and locating wastewater treatment in city center districts.
Representatives of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee proposed that JICA continue to provide ODA loan for Ho Chi Minh City Water Environment Improvement Phase III which aims at Doi – Te canal wastewater treatment and Tan Hoa – Lo Gom canal improvement.
Speaking at the working session, JICA Present Mr. Akihito Tanaka highly appreciated Ho Chi Minh City’s efficient fund utilization. “JICA will consider financing projects in Vietnam including the Ho Chi Minh City Water Environment Improvement Phase III”, he added.
