The chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Nguyen The Thao, criticised the sluggish construction of Nhon-Hanoi Station metro route at a meeting on February 24.
The project was kicked off in September 2010, however so far the implementation of almost every aspect of the bidding package has been behind schedule. The route is to have 12 stations with automatic ticketing systems, and four kilometres of the 12.5-km route will be underground. Each train will have a planned capacity of 900 passengers.
The slow pace of the project is mainly due to problems in site clearance. The French company, Syrtra Consulting, has at least temporarily ended their involvement after their contract expired in November, 2013.
Because of these problems, the expected completion date is now 2018 instead of September 2017.
Syrtra has asked for an increased fee of EUR43 million (USD60 million), from the EUR34 million approved by Hanoi. The firm has also requested compensation of nearly EUR3 million to continue the contract. The two sides have not yet reached an agreement.
The director of the Hanoi Department of Transport, Nguyen Manh Hung, urged the investor to make a quick final decision, as without the consulting agency, the project could be further delayed.
The chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, Nguyen The Thao, asked the investor to deal with consulting issues by March to speed up the project.
