Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved several projects to expand the Ha Noi and HCM City electricity grids. They will be completed by 2016 at a cost of US$366.98 million including nearly $273 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund through the ADB.
The rest will come from Electricity of Viet Nam. The Ministry of Trade and Industry will oversee their execution.

Lao Cai Province welcomes more tourists
Lao Cai Province welcomed more than 20,000 domestic and foreign tourists during Tet, 5 per cent higher than last year. Of them, 13,000 were foreigners, with China and Europe accounting for the largest numbers.
Revenues from tourism topped VND20 billion ($952,380), an increase of 19 per cent year-on-year.

World Bank backs mountain development
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a clutch of urban development projects in the northern mountainous provinces with funding from the World Bank.
They are aimed at improving infrastructure and environmental hygiene and raising living standards in the provinces of Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Dien Bien, Hoa Binh, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, and Yen Bai.
They are estimated to cost nearly $302 million of which $250 million will be borrowed from the bank’s World Development Federation.

Help for HCM City’s young entrepreneurs
The HCM City Youth Federation’s Young Business Association this year plans to step up assistance to its members through programmes linking domestic and foreign firms and training in management skills.
The YBA will also organise more exchanges with foreign embassies to enhance members’ relationship with them, providing them more opportunities for trading with other countries.
Trade promotion trips to Hong Kong and Myanmar will also be organised this year.

Mango trees recognised as national heritage
The Viet Nam Association for the Conservation of Nature and Environment has recognised 20 Da Trang mango trees in Tu Quang Pagoda in the central coastal province of Phu Yen as national heritage trees.
The 220-year-old trees have white flowers and fruits with smooth yellow skin and a sweet flavour and delicious taste.
In the past the fruits were presented only to the king.
Nguyen Dieu, the association’s deputy chairman, said the recognition aims to protect the precious variety.
