PANO – Minister of National Defence General Phung Quang Thanh highly spoke of US Ambassador to Vietnam David B.Shear’s important contributions to enhancing Vietnam-US cooperation during his tenure in Vietnam.
At the reception given to the out-going ambassador on March 27th at the Ministry’s Headquarters, General Thanh emphasized that defence ties between Vietnam and the US have been positively developing over the past time, especially since the two sides signed an MoU on the bilateral defence cooperation in 2012.
General Thanh held that Vietnam is willing to expand its defence cooperation with the US so as to contribute to peace, prosperity and stability in the Asia-Pacific, and hoped that the US Ambassador, in his new position, would make more contributions to the development of the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the US.
For his part, Ambassador David Shear thanked the Vietnamese ministry for close cooperation during his tenure and promised to continue contributing to the development of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries, especially defence cooperation.
On this occasion, the two sides also discussed some issues relating to the coming ASEAN-US Defence Ministerial Meeting.
