The Ministry of Information and Communications collaborating with WildAid, an international NGO whose mission is to end illegal wildlife trade and the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) to launch the “Stop Using Rhino Horn” campaign.

With the message “When the buying stops, the killing can too”, the campaign aims to raise awareness of rhino poaching and call on Vietnamese people not to rhino horn products, thus reducing demand for buying and using rhino horn products.

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan, illegal wildlife trade has posed negative impacts on social security and environment. Wildlife trade has generated illegal profits, caused national insecurity and increased emerging risks of contagious diseases. Killing of precious, rare and endangered wildlife species for their parts and associated products tarnishes Vietnam’s reputation for committing to international conventions.

“In an effort to stop violations against Vietnam’s law and International Conventions, relevant ministries, agencies and local authorities urge government-attached agencies to promote mass media reporting, campaign activities and strict prosecution for those convicted of illicit trade and use of rhino horn”, added Mr. Tuan.
