VN concerned about missing Malaysian plane

Viet Nam is deeply concerned about the missing Malaysian plane and sympathizes with the plight of the families and relatives of passengers on board.


The statement was made by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Hai Binh on March 8 when answering reporters’ queries on Viet Nam’s response to the missing of the Malaysian Airlines’ aircraft as it was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.


Immediately after receiving the information, Viet Nam proactively coordinated with concerned parties to verify the facts and deploy search and rescue measures, he said.


Vietnam, Malaysia FMs talk over missing Malaysian plane


Deputy Prime Minister-Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on March 8 phoned his Malaysian counterpart Dato Sri Anifah Hj Aman over the missing of Malaysian Airlines’ Boeing 777-200 ER with 239 people on board.


Mr. Minh expressed and shared his deep concern about the incident with the Government and people of Malaysia, as well as a number of regional countries and families of passengers on the flight.


He said on hearing the news, the Vietnamese Prime Minister immediately asked relevant Vietnamese agencies to verify information and deploy forces to join search and rescue efforts.


Relevant Vietnamese agencies are trying their best to search for the missing plane, he said.


Localities nationwide celebrate int’l Women’s Day


Cities and provinces nationwide have been busy with activities to observe the 104th anniversary of International Women’s Day (March 8).


In Ha Noi , a culinary festival was attended by Nguyen Nguyet Nga, the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other guests of honour from the Diplomatic Corps.


Meanwhile, in the southern province of Tra Vinh , the local chapter of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) hosted an official celebration ceremony on March 7 and received the President’s Labour Order, first class.


To mark the day, seminars on equality also took place in the southern city of Can Tho and the provinces of Hau Giang and Bac Lieu.


In Ho Chi Minh City, the southern Viet Nam Women Museum is showcasing 80 photos and other items related to women who made a contribution to diplomacy during the wars in Vietnam . The exhibition continues until June 30.


ANZ: Exports & FDI boost economy in Feb.


Vietnamese economy continued to be boosted by exports and foreign direct investment (FDI) on high demand of world market in February, said Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) Banking Group in its latest report.


According to the report, in spite of modest positive economic signals, Viet Nam’s economy could lean steadily on the FDI inflow into the country, high export revenue, growth in production activities of FDI sector as well as stable Vietnamese dong.


“We keep the forecast that Viet Nam’s Gross Domestic Production rate in 2014 will be 5.6-5.8% and inflation rate will be 7-7.5%, according to ANZ.


Japanese cherry blossom festival opens in HN


Japanese cherry blossom festival was open to public on March 8-9 in Ha Noi with around 200 Japanese cherry blossom trees.


The event also features Yosakoi dance performances by groups of Vietnamese and Japanese artists.


Stalls of traditional Japanese food and ones displaying Cosplay and Origami paper folding, performances of Kendo and Aikido martial arts also attracted visitors./.
