Nhan Dan Online – Vietnam always wishes to bolster the fine neighbourly relationship and sustainable co-operation with China, considering it among the top priorities of the country’s foreign policy, Deputy Defence Minister Sr Lt Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh has said.

Vinh made the remark while hosting a border defence talk on March 11 with a delegation from China’s People’s Liberation Army led by Lt Gen Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of the General Staff of China’s People’s Liberation Army, in Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province.

He hailed the meeting as a good opportunity to boost mutual understanding and promote bilateral defence relations, contributing to creating a peaceful, stable and co-operative environment between the armies of the two nations.

For his part, Qi Jianguo stressed the importance of enhancing mutual belief, considering it a firm foundation for the comprehensive development between the two countries and their border areas.

He also suggested that the two sides expand information exchanges between the two countries’ border guard forces, intensify the joint border patrol and realise bilateral agreements reached by the two defence ministries in the past.

After the talk, the Chinese delegation held talks with Vietnam Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh before visiting the Tra Co Border Post in Mong Cai city.

The talk was part of the 2014 Vietnam-China friendship border defence exchange programme, which runs from March 10-12. Earlier on March 10, the Vietnamese defence ministry delegation led by Sr Lt Gen Vinh arrived in Guangxi for a friendship talk with the Chinese defence ministry delegation led by Lt Gen Qi Jianguo.
