VOV General Director Nguyen Dang Tien told Vice NA Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong who visited VOV headquarters in Hanoi on March 1.

(VOV) – Voice of Vietnam (VOV)’s television channel featuring National Assembly (NA) activities will debut in October, serving as an official organ of the Vietnamese NA.

The VOV leader briefed Phong on VOV’s outstanding achievements over the past years, noting that VOV is currently a leading only media agency of Vietnam which covers four forms of media: broadcasting, television, printed and online.

VOV is also the only radio station broadcasting 12 programmes in ethnic languages and 12 in foreign languages.

VOV is making every effort to expand its coverage to every corner of the country thus better serving readers at home and abroad, Tien said.

Concerning the progress of carrying out the NA channel project, Tien said on May 6, 2013 the NA Standing Committee assigned VOV to embark on a TV channel for NA. It is a great honour for all VOV staff but a heavy task and responsibility for them as NA operations are more and more democratic in line with the nation’s common development.

The channel will highlight three major functions of the legislative body—constitutional power, legislation, supreme supervision with the aim of reflecting people’s aspirations to the NA, Party and State.

VOV pledges to ensure good infrastructure facilities to connect all NA activities in localities, people’s committees to other TV agencies such as VTV, AVG and VTC, Tien said.

In her statement, Phong underlined the need for VOV to operate the TV channel effectively and properly in accordance with political orientations, guidelines and purposes

The channel needs to bring into full play people’s voice at NA forums and bring voters’ opinions to the Party, State and NA.

She voiced his hope that with active and thorough preparations, VOV will put the channel into operation in October this year in coincidence with the inauguration of a NA building which will help create an accurate and timely information channel to impart NA information to voters nationwide.

The same day, Phong and her delegation attended a green economy forum for sustainable development co-hosted by VOV and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The new exchange program’s aim is to discuss orientations for environmentally friendly production and business as a best way to promote sustainable growth and protect the nation’s natural resources.
