VGP – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has asked the Environmental Police, under the Ministry of Public Security, to report on the illegal import and sales of sturgeons in Viet Nam.
he illegal import has severely threatened the wealth of local sturgeon breeders and businesses, said the Viet Nam Cold Water Fish Association.
It was found that three to five tons of unidentified sturgeons are transported illegally by air into Ho Chi Minh City a day. Besides, a certain quantity of illegal sturgeons labeled Vietnamese products is found on the shelves in supermarkets and at open markets in Ha Noi.
As air transportation is the major way for foreign sturgeons to enter HCM City, the Viet Nam Cold Water Fish Association suggested that relevant authorities should tighten inspection right at airports to put an end to the situation./.
