Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien urged health authorities to administer measles shots on children to ensure 95 percent of children to have vaccination on April 24.
Local health authorities must enhance supervision on the disease, quarantine to reduce transmission, and mobilize all forces for treatment. Hospitals ought to set up restricted separated sections for measles patients and conduct disinfection to avoid transmission.
The Ministry of Public Security ordered its departments in the country to keep security and order in overloading hospitals.
Ho Chi Minh City is out of measles vaccinations in public and private medical clinics. Nguyen Tri Dung, head of Preventive Medicine Center in HCMC said that vaccine will arrive in the two next days. Children hospital No.2 is temporarily out of stock while Pasteur Institute has around 3,000 doses in stock for over one-day-use only.
Nguyen Huu Hung, deputy director of the Department of Health, said that it has petitioned to the ministry for free vaccination for children ages three to six who are not eligible to receive free vaccine shots in the National Expanded Program on Immunization.
The municipal People’s Committee has approved this proposal, it will spend state budget in the case that the ministry will not agree.
