A second meeting of young Vietnamese scientists in South Korea has just been organized by the Science and Technology Office under the Vietnamese Embassy in South Korea.

The event aims to acknowledge the importance of Viet Nam’s scientific development and advantages and the important ways overseas Vietnamese scientists have contributed to the homeland’s development. Work of the Vietnamese scientist community working in South Korea was especially acknowledged.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam, a representative of the Science and Technology Office, said that after the first meeting organized last year, some technologies have been transferred from South Korea to Vietnam. In particular, research related to V-KIST, a model of the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) is now being built in Vietnam with the support of South Korea.

Dr. So Doan Nam Thai said that it is important to have a channel to exchange information, such as the needs of schools, institutes, domestic and foreign research organizations. Technology transfers to Vietnam will be when more efficient When supply and demand are communicated.

Some delegates suggested that it is necessary to launch a webpage or other online forum to exchange scientific information between Vietnam and South Korea.

Prof. Nguyen Van Thinh, a Vietnamese-Canadian scientist working for Seoul National University, shared his thoughts and concerns with younger scientists. He voiced concerns that difficulties in cooperation with Vietnam related to administrative procedures and methods can impede scientific research cooperation. He pointed out that this will be a major obstacle to attract intelligent investment into Vietnam, as if information doesn’t meet enthusiastic people, it is very difficult to cooperate.

Prof. Nguyen Hoa Hong, a Vietnamese French scientist also working for Seoul National University, said that the implementation of Vietnamese agencies is sometimes inadequate. For example, when she tries to introduce students for South Korea’s leading prestigious scholarships and fails to receive a reply from Vietnam in right time, it is difficult to continue. Easy communication is one of the important criteria while working with foreign partners,

At the event, a liaison committee has been established, in order to further the work of the Vietnamese Scientist Association in South Korea in the future. The committee expects to be a foundation for collecting scientific achievements of overseas Vietnamese to further build the homeland./.
