Vietnam Finance Minister calls for more investment from Japan

Vietnamese Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung chaired a conference on boosting Japanese investment in Vietnam’s stock market held in Tokyo, Japan on Friday, as part of his visit to the East Asian country.

The conference, with the theme “Vietnam – A Destination for Foreign Investors“, attracted more than 100 Japanese and about 30 Vietnamese enterprises and investors.


Among the Japanese investors are SBI Holding, Sumitomo Mitsui Asset Management Co., Sumitomo life Insurance Company, Daiwa Securities, Daiwa Institute of Research, The TOA Institution, Mitsubishi Corporation, Knowledge Company, Mizuho Bank, Recof Corporation, Normura Securities, Resona Bank, JP Morgan Securities, and Aizawa Securities.


Addressing the event, Minister Dung pledged that his ministry will take all possible measures to improve the investment environment in Vietnam to enhance the efficiency of projects and bring long-term benefits to Japanese investors in the country.


The event was aimed to implement the strategic partnership between the two countries, as stated in the Vietnam-Japan joint statement issued in March this year, and to support Vietnam’s plans of equitizing State-own enterprises.


The event also offerred a good opportunity for Vietnam to introduce its investment policies in the stock market while helping Vietnamese businesses seek new foreign partners.


A day earlier, April 24, Minister Dung had a meeting with the Japan Exchange Group in Tokyo, during which Japan Exchange Group President Atsushi Saito briefed Dung on the outcome of the group’s cooperation with Vietnam’s State Securities Commission and with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchanges over the past ten years.


The Japanese host affirmed that the cooperation between the group and these stock exchanges plays an important role in the its external relations strategy.


In reply, Dung proposed that Vietnam and Japan work more closely to boost the bilateral cooperation in human resources, infrastructure, and strengthen experience exchange in market management.
