Ho Chi Minh City is restoring and expanding its administrative center in order to create more public interaction.
An old apartment building at the corner of Dong Khoi and Le Thanh Ton streets is being dismantled to make way for a new city government building, Thoi bao Kinh te Saigon Online reported.
The Ho Chi Minh City Housing Management and Trading Company said all construction around the 18,000 square meter will be removed, except for the current administrative center at 86 Le Thanh Ton Street.
The old French Colonial hotel that currently houses the city People’s Committee and the city legislature, will be preserved and linked to the new center.
Nguyen Trong Hoa, head of HCMC Institute for Development Studies, said the plan will open the ground floor to the public and create space for community cultural projects.
“The new administrative center aims to create more interaction between the city government and the people,” Hoa said.
