On May 28th, the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) worked with the People’s Committee of the central province of Binh Dinh to launch the campaign “Joining hands for the East Sea“, in order to support the fishermen of the national waters.
During the launching ceremony, BIDV announced assistance worth VND26.7 billion for the coast guard, fisheries resources surveillance, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and fishermen to carry out construction and buy materials serving offshore fishing.
In addition, it puts aside a VND3 trillion loan for building high capacity vessels, building up the systems serving offshore fishing, contributing to affirm the nation’s sea and island sovereignty.
BIDV also worked out some groups of solutions, together with people across the country, to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity. In order to realise the target to build 1,000 armour-plated high capacity fishing vessels with offshore fishing services, BIDV called on all political and social organizations, Vietnamese individuals and progressive organizations all over the world to contribute to the vessel building. At first, BIDV presented a 1,000 CV armour-plated vessel worth VND5 billion to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for its members to conduct offshore fishing.
In 2014, BIDV plans to earmark VND5 billion to build 6 national flag towers on different islands to contribute towards confirmation of national sovereignty.
In addition, BIDV has announced the setting up of 9 foundations worth VND5 billion to support fishermen or develop the fisheries sector in 9 provinces and cities; put aside VND2.5 billion to give 1,000 scholarships and 50,000 notebooks to fishermen’s children as well as medical equipment and medicine for people across coastal areas; and to send 180,000 messages worth VND3.2 billion to contribute to the message sending program entitled “Joining hands for the nation’s sea and islands“.
To assist law enforcement missions at sea, BIDV also earmarked VND4 billion to present the coast guard forces and an additional VND2 billion to fisheries resources surveillance to buy equipment, upgrade devices and support cadres’ and soldiers’ lives./.
