PANO – 115 cyclists from 23 Vietnamese and international teams on May 3rd conquered the third and the longest stage of the “To Dien Bien Phu 2014 – the People’s Army Newspaper Cup” cycling tournament which started on May 1st in Hanoi.
In the stage, the female started in Moc Chau town (Son La province) while the male departed from Mai Chau town (Hoa Binh province) to Son La city. The stage with many slopes and high passes challenged the cyclists. However, all of them completed the stage thanks to their inner efforts and active encouragement from local people along the road.
With sound tactics, Nguyen Thi That won the third stage of the tournament, followed by Phan Thi Thuy Trang from Binh Duong Water Supply – Sewerage – Environment and Cao Thi Cam Le from the same team.
In the race for men, cyclist Nguyen Tuan Hoai from Domesco Dong Thap 1 ranked the first. Second and third positions belonged to athletes Le Van Duan from Suntek Sao Viet team and Nguyen Thanh Tam from An Giang Plant Protection Joint-stock Company (AGPPS), respectively.
Earlier on May 2nd, in the women’s category, cyclist Nguyen Thi That came first with impressive performance of 2 hours, 51 minutes and 19 seconds, followed by Nguyen Thuy Duong from Binh Duong Water Supply – Sewerage – Environment and Pham Thi Thuy Lien from Co May Dong Thap 1.
In the men’s category, cyclist Nguyen Tuan Hoai from Domesco Dong Thap 1 held first position while cyclists Nguyen Truong Tai of Momesco Dong Thap 1 and Chau Hong Hau from the National Defence Sporting Centre II ranked the second and third, respectively.
In the stage of over 100kms from Hanoi to Cao Phong district, Hoa Binh province, cyclists had to cross steep slopes such as Kem and Cun. They received warm welcome, support and encouragement from local people along the road.
At the end of each stage, the tournament’s organizers presented gifts to war veterans and those who had taken part in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
