The Central Highlands resort town of Da Lat plans to expand nearly nine-fold to become as big as Hanoi over the next 16 years, according to a plan recently approved by the government.
Under the project, the town will merge with six nearby districts like Don Duong, Lac Duong, and Duc Trong to acquire a total area of 335,930 hectares, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper quoted Lam Dong Province’s Department of Construction as saying on Thursday.
The new Da Lat, which will be developed into a modern urban area, will be home to more than 700,000 people and serve some 10 million tourists per year, according to the department.
It said the districts will become “satellite towns” centering around Da Lat with different focuses of development like trade, entertainment, agriculture, and tourism.
The expansion plan was prepared by a group of French experts on urban planning and debated by local agencies, Tuoi Tre reported.
