On June 12, in Hanoi, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion held meeting with press agencies to provide information about activities to respond to the World Blood Donor Day (June 14) with the theme “Safe blood for saving mothers“.

Accordingly, from June 12-14, in Hanoi and the northern midland province of Phu Tho, the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donor Recruitment will organize a series of activities to glorify 100 outstanding blood donors in 2014.

This is the eighth year Vietnam has organized state-level festival to glorify blood donors.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tri, director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and member of the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donor Recruitment, said: “Nearly 2,600 people donate their blood every day. Without them, many patients have not been saved life, many surgeries have been cancelled, many mothers have not been timely saved from obstetrical accidents. Without their blood, many medical techniques can not been implemented. They are really benefactor and hero of patients”.

Mr. Tri said that the lack of blood is often serious during summer and holidays. To respond to the World Blood Donor Day and overcome blood scarcity during summer, a blood donation festival will be held in Hanoi on June 14 to receive from 800 to 1,000 blood units./.
