(CPV) – According to a report by the Ministry of Transport (MOT), so far 1,521 out of 133,785 drivers nationwide are not healthy enough to drive. Of this figure, 477 drivers tested positive for drugs.
The report also said that 59 provinces and cities have made reports on health examination of drivers under the direction of the Government. The four provinces of Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long and Vinh Phuc have not reported as of June 10.
The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN), under the MOT, has directed that localities should issue decisions soon on revoking driving licences for 24 months for drivers using drugs.
The current penalty of a 24 month driving ban is only applied to drivers who have been found to be using drugs while driving on roads. Therefore, difficulties have been experienced in revoking driving licences when drivers test positive at health examinations in health facilities.
The DRVN also proposed that the drivers who lose their driving licences, are only re-granted after they execute the full punishment time and meet health requirements in a subsequent test at the health facilities where they were originally examined./.
