The southern province of Binh Duong has implemented support plans for local companies affected by demonstrations in May against the Chinese oil rig illegally-placed in Vietnamese waters.
Companies’ representatives receive the province’s support
The companies will be compensated by insurance companies for their losses. Besides insurance compensations, the province has said it will do its utmost to support the firms.
Accordingly, 37 companies will receive a total of VND286 billion (USD13.62 million). The provincial People’s Committee has also offered free construction licenses to these enterprises, allowing them to upgrade and rebuild their damaged facilities and equipment.
The companies will also be given extensions on tax payments, receive VAT refunds as well as a reduction of special consumption tax. They have also been exempted from import taxes for any equipment that needs to be brought in from overseas.
The provincial People’s Committee set up mobile job consulting groups to help connect graduates from vocational training schools with potential employers at large companies.
In addition, local authorities shortened the time it takes for licensing of foreign labourers from three days to one.
The majority of equipment and material stolen during the demonstrations has been found and successfully returned to the companies, but the officials of the provinces are determined to make full compensation and encourage the affected businesses.
Authorities in HCM City have released a report on security which said that the Viet Tan (Vietnam Reform Party) took advantage of a chaotic situation to achieve their own goals as well as personally profit. It was determined that they hijacked otherwise non-violent protests, causing damage to persons and property at companies in HCM City and in Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces. Not all of these companies were owned by Chinese firms.
