In the morning of June 25, Deputy Prime Minister cum Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired the national online conference with provinces and cities across the country to review the traffic safety works in the first six months of 2014 and tasks for the rest months.
Vice Chairman of the PPC Pham Nhu So chaired the conference at Quang Ngai bridge point.
As reported by the National Traffic Safety Committee, in the first 6 months of the year, the number of traffic accidents in the provinces has reduced on three criteria (number of cases, death toll and injuries).
On May 15, there were 10,772 traffic accidents (down 13.13% y-o-y) that killed 3,928 people (down 5.07% y-o-y), injured 10,556 people (down 15.94% y-o-y).
48 out of 64 provinces and cities across the country have decreased the number of deaths due to traffic accidents, of which 10 provinces have 20% decrease of died people including Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Lang Son, Ninh Thuan, Hau Giang, Binh Thuan, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Dien Bien, Ha Tinh.
In Quang Ngai province, in the first half of 2014, 72 traffic accidents occurred in the provincial area, killing 68 people, injuring 37 people. As compared with the same period last year, the traffic accident cases were decreased 0.4%, deaths of 11.69%, injuries of 11.9%.
Propaganda and education works on traffic laws have been implemented strongly and widely in different ways in localities, creating positive changes in people’s awareness.
In order to control and reduce traffic accidents in three criteria in comparison with 2013, in the coming time, Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked provinces and cities to continue to implement tasks and solutions for ensuring traffic safety such as strengthening propaganda work in public communications; checking loading capacity of road transport vehicles, speeding up projects’ schedules of road construction and improvement; strictly dealing with traffic violations; etc.
