The Hai Duong provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism is compiling dossiers to request the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to recognize two antiques, namely Huu Chung bronze drum and a stele at Con Son pagoda, as national treasures.
Huu Chung bronze drum, currently stored at the provincial Museum, was found in May, 1961, at a depth of 0.8 m in Huu Chung hamlet, Ha Thanh commune (Tu Ky). It is classified among the late drum group of Dong Son bronze drums.
The drum is 0.76 m tall with the drumhead 0.82 m in diameter. At the center of the drumhead is a picture of the sun with 12 rays.
The stele at Con Son pagoda, named Con Son Tu Phuc Tu Bi (the stele of Con Son Tu Phuc pagoda), was erected in the 8th Hoang Dinh year (1607) under the reign of King Le Kinh Tong and read by Uncle Ho on the occasion of his visit to Con Son on February 15, 1965. This is one of 14 extant steles at Con Son pagoda.
The stele is 1.2 m tall, 0.32 m wide and has six sides. Con Son Tu Phuc Tu Bi has a very rare hexagonal form in Vietnam, introduces the origin and scale of Con Son pagoda from the Tran dynasty, the restoration process, names of those with donations to the restoration, and includes a bai minh (a kind of poem with four-word verses) which introduces the beautiful scenery of Con Son pagoda.
