The Ministry of Transport, People’s Committee of Quang Nam and the 545 Construction Company January 13 broke the ground for the expansion of a 40-kilometer section of National Highway 1A in the central province of Quang Nam.

The section will pass through districts Duy Xuyen, Que Son, Thang Binh and Phu Ninh in line with a Building-Operation-Transfer agreement, with a total investment of VND1.4 trillion (US$71 million).

The 20.5-meter-wide section includes six lanes passing through the four districts whereas the section through suburban districts has the width of 16.5 meter and four lanes. The section will connect the central city of Da Nang with Quang Nam Province.

The project is expected to be completed within 2 years.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc lauded efforts made by the ministry, local administration and the construction company in finding investment source.

He asked the ministry and local government to clear sites for the project no later than June, 2014 to ensure the project will have to be completed on schedule.
