The global financial crisis in the last three years has affected Vietnam’s economy in many ways. The two critical areas of concern are tightening of the market and reduction of foreign investments. This has had an immediate impact on the sustainability of many companies operating in Vietnam. This has led to a reduction of their operations. Or even worse, abandoning their investment altogether in Vietnam.
In light of this situation, stable and sustainable solutions, as well as innovative practices are key areas that can help companies weather the economic storm.
After more than five years of operation in Vietnam, Tebodin has been applying sustainable solutions to its client’s projects as well as finding alternative solutions suitable for Vietnam.
Amongst their projects, completed or under construction, the extension project of 30,000m2 for Coca-Cola Beverage Vietnam in Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City is a prime example. It represents Tebodin’s determination in strengthening the development of environmentally friendly constructions in Vietnam. The goal of the project is to achieve a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver certification. This is an important milestone towards sustainable design in Vietnam. Tebodin is championing this milestone and is driving new innovations in the market continuously.
Tebodin in Vietnam has been cooperating with colleagues in Poland to execute all necessary procedures required by “LEED 2009 for New Constructions and Major Renovation Rating System.” The design was accomplished by engineers of the Vietnam office in close cooperation with LEED Accredited Professionals (AP) and engineers of the office in Szczecin, Poland. This close collaboration means that more specific skills and knowledge has been transferred directly into Tebodin’s workforce in Vietnam. Moving forward, the LEED consultancy team of Tebodin, Vietnam has been able to undertake similar kind of projects in other countries in Asia Pacific.
Tebodin has also advised their clients to use biomass instead of fuel oil or charcoal in production activities. According to Mr Ronald de Vries, Managing Director of Tebodin, Vietnam, “Biomass is an important natural resource and a source of energy that Vietnam is extremely well endowed with.” It can be derived from fuel wood as well as from agricultural residues like rice straw and husks. Aside from the environmental advantages of biomass over fuel oil and charcoal, companies can reduce running costs by using a source of energy that is more readily available.
Up to date, Tebodin in Vietnam has over 165 staffs with offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
With a strategy to further strengthen its presence in the Asia Pacific region, Tebodin will continue to bring sustainability and innovation more and more to its clients.
Tebodin is part of the international engineering and services company Bilfinger SE.
