The Hanoitimes – Vietnam exported 133,000 tonnes of raw cashew nuts at US$847 million during the first six months of the year, up 20.1% in volume and 22.1% in value on-year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) reports.
According to the latest forecast by the Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) Vietnam’s raw cashew nut exports are on track to reach 270,000 tonnes and revenues of US$1.8 billion for 2014.
If processed cashew products are factored into the mix, gross export revenues may reach as high as US$2.2 billion, outpacing last year’s combined value of US$1.8 billion.
Vietnamese cashew products have been exported to 40 countries and territories. The US is the largest importer, accounting for 40% of the total value, closely followed by the EU (30%), China (20%) and Australia (11%).
Experts recently completed a study of cashew nuts in Vietnam, concluding the quality of Vietnamese cashew is improving and is better than nuts from other countries, according to Vinacas.
