(VOV) – Three victims who survived a tragic helicopter crash on the outskirts of Hanoi on July 7 remain in critical condition, and they are struggling to cling to life in hospital.
Lieutenant Nguyen Hoang Anh, Lieutenant Nguyen Van Tuan and Lieutenant Dinh Van Duong are now receiving intensive care at the National Burns Institute in Hanoi.
They are all suffering severe burns due to heat and smoke inhalation, with burns covering as much as between 40-50% of their total body surface area. They are also carrying multiple internal injuries, including in the skull and lungs.
“The first three days are the most difficult time for the patients, then comes the stage of multi-organ failure and sepsis [blood infection],” said doctor Nguyen Viet Luong of the National Burns Institute. “It is difficult to predict in this case.”
An inter-hospital examination was conducted on July 9 with the participation of leading doctors from Military Hospital 103, Military Hospital 108, as well as Bach Mai, Vietnam-Germany and Vinmec hospitals.
State-of-the-art technology and equipment has been applied, in the hope the three patients would recover from the most critical time.
Dr Luong said the patients are given antibiotics and continuous round the clock dialysis to prevent blood infection and kidney failure. They are all using respirators. Their medical indices are within safe limits.
During a visit on July 9, Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh asked the National Burns Institute to pool all resources to save the patients.

Accordingly, the army will assist children of soldiers, who lost their lives in the tragedy, in study, seek suitable jobs for the wives of the dead or injured, and arrange accommodations for the displaced.
A solemn funeral for the 18 dead soldiers will be held in Hanoi on July 11.
