(VOV) – The governments of Vietnam and Italy have signed an agreement to increase bilateral cooperation in crime prevention and control.
The agreement was signed by Italian Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano and visiting Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang, following their talks in Rome on July 9.
During the talks, both sides noted with satisfaction the effective and practical cooperation in tackling crime in recent times between the two ministries, making a positive contribution to ensuring security in each country.
They agreed on measures to strengthen cooperation in fighting crime, especially organized-, transnational-, terrorism, drug-related, and hi-tech crimes, as well as the trafficking in women and children.
The two ministries will maintain reciprocal visit exchanges to share information and experience, and increase the training of law enforcement officers.
Vietnam and Italy will speed up negotiations of and soon sign agreements on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, extradition of criminals and prisoners, protection of secret information, and other memoranda of understanding in order to fulfil their commitments.
Later on the same day, General Quang visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Italy.
Quang is on a visit to Italy from July 8-11 at the invitation of Italian Minister of Interior Angelino Alfano.
