Provincial health agencies were asked to cooperate with immigration authorities at entry points to monitor international visitors, especially visitors from countries that have had Ebola outbreaks. Suspected cases will be quarantined and tested.

Equipment, such as quarantine rooms, protective masks and clothing, will be needed to ensure the safety of medical staff as well as patients’ families. Health facilities are currently making plans to deal with situations in which they receive an influx of patients and they are short of beds.

Local governments were asked to help educate and inform citizens about the virus.

The Ministry of Health warned that the Ebola virus has a fatality rate of around 90%. People can be infected through close contact with the blood or other bodily fluids of those carrying the virus. Between December 2013 and July 30, 2014, there were 1,300 reported cases of the disease in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leona and Nigeria.

Since there is no vaccine or cure for the virus, people are advised to practice good hygiene and avoid direct contact with bodily fluids of anyone who may be infected.

Since July 1, with the spread of SARS, Vietnam also required mandatory health declarations and screenings from international visitors, especially those from the Middle East.
