Central province receives VND5 billion in assistance for fishermen

The Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), recently presented VND5 billion to the fund supporting fishermen in the Central Province of Quang Ngai.


Three years after its establishment, the fund has received substantial assistance from the bank, contributing towards the building of fishing vessels.


As of early August, the fund had mobilised some VND42 billion from domestic and foreign organizations, individuals and enterprises.


Of the capital, over VND25 billion has been spent assisting the 350 fishermen who had accidents at sea and Captains whose vessels and assets were seized when legally fishing in Vietnamese waters and building 5 houses of gratitude for fishermen’s families whose relatives suffered the effects of Agent Orange. The fund has also supported the building of 2 steel ships worth VND14 billion.


Earlier, at the end of August, in Ly Son Island, 100 presents worth VND500,000 each and a package of Ginseng were given to fishermen on the island by the Hanoi City Peace Committee, the Hanoi City Association in Support of Handicapped and Orphans and the Hanoi City Oriental Traditional Medicine Association.


This was part of program “Forwarding the homeland’s sea and islands” which is being held to share difficulties with fishermen.


Under the program, the working delegation is expected to give 100 presents worth VND60 million and 3 houses of gratitude worth VND120 million to disadvantaged fishermen in Binh Chau commune, Binh Son district./.
