On September 15, the European Union (EU) called on member states to strengthen support efforts to combat the Ebola outbreak.

The EU agreed to press the urgent need for effective treatment centers and sufficient numbers of trained health workers to respond to the Ebola epidemic.

The EU pledged USD194 million to fight the disease and has sent in mobile laboratories to diagnose and confirm cases, as well as facilities equipped to train laboratory technicians in the affected areas.

Liberia and Sierra Leone will receive financial assistance through budget support to help them respond to the crisis.

The Ebola outbreak has now killed more than 2,400 people and infected over 4,700 people, according to the new toll released by the World Health Organisation (WHO)./.
