On September 15, Poland’s President, Bronislaw Komorowski, appointed Parliamentary Speaker, Ewa Kopacz, as the country’s new Prime Minister (PM). Ms Ewa Kopacz, 57, will succeed Donald Tusk, who resigned as government leader after being chosen to head the European Council for 5 years, starting on December 1. Ewa Kopacz, has been a member of the centre-right Civic Platform Party since 2001. She served as Minister of Health from 2007-2011, during Donald Tusk’s first term as Prime Minister. She was then made Speaker of the Lower House of parliament. She will head the center-right coalition Cabinet until parliamentary elections in the autumn of 2015. “There has been much speculation about how the next government will perform: but I can say one thing – it will be a good government,” Kopacz said, after her meeting with President Komorowski at the Belweder Palace in Warsaw./. |
