On September 15, the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank) handed over 100 houses and 100 cows worth VND4.2 billion, to poor families in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum. This was part of the assistance package worth VND26 billion that the bank has planned to allocate throughout Kon Tum province in 2014. Together with further assistance from the local communities, each house was built for VND45 million. Vietinbank has been a long-term supporter for social welfare and has made payments of VND96 billion over the years, through various gratitude programs that have contributed over 1,000 houses, 600 buffalos and cows, one pre-school, a centre for children; granted 100 wheelchairs for poor, disabled children and orphans and overall contributing to the accelerattion of poverty reduction in the province. Earlier, Vietinbank granted 200 houses for poor families and medical equipment for a military hospital in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai. Accordingly, the houses worth over VND11 billion were mainly constructed for poor ethnic minority families across 6 remote and disadvantaged districts. In the province, the bank also granted some modern medical equipment and an ambulance worth a total of nearly VND12 billion for a military hospital. Over the past years, Gia Lai province has received nearly VND120 billion from the bank in support for social welfare programs./. |
