Hanoi police have arrested a 26-year-old man accused of attacking a doctor at Thanh Nhan Hospital on September 20 and breaking his jaw bone.

Do Manh Tuan of Hai Ba Trung District is being investigated for causing public nuisance, according to police in the district’s Thanh Luong Ward.

At the police station, Tuan confessed he attacked doctor Pham Thanh Tung because he thought the hospital refused to treat an injured 14-year-old boy.

According to the police, Dam Thi Thu Thuy brought the boy, Nguyen Gia Huy, to the hospital to visit his mother who had just given birth.

During the visit, Huy fell down some stairs and bumped his forehead.

Thuy brought him to the hospital’s emergency room where Dr. Tung examined the child and asked his family to transfer him to the cancer hospital for a brain scan.

He assigned two nurses to accompany the child.

Soon afterward, a group of three men that included Tuan began insulting Tung.

Tuan attacked the doctor before being stopped by others.

Tuan confessed to attacking Tung out of pity for the child and being frustrated with the way the hospital’s doctors treated their patients.

Police are investigating the case.
