It is reported that the planning scheme of Vietnam marine use planning aims to exploit the sea’s resources in a sustainable way to 2025 with a vision to 2035. The planning includes spatial planning of waters, natural resources, the exploitation activities and use of the sea for the economic, social, environmental and security – defense purposes. This is an integrated planning which is consistent with socio- economic development planning. The scheme is expected to implement from August 2014 to December 2015.
Representatives of the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands – Vu Si Tuan, Deputy General Director said that it needs to build a marine use planning for efficient and sustainable marine resource exploitation at the conference held on August 26.
Mr. Do Van Sen, acting director of the department of seas and islands exploitation management, which is the agency implementing the scheme, said that Vietnam has a coast stretching over 3,260 km, consisting of more than 4,000 islands which are rich and diverse of types of natural resources that brings great benefit to the development of many industries. However, there do exist many challenges due to shortcomings and limitations of decentralization among localities and industries. Especially, there is no State integrated management model, therefore, the implementation of the planning scheme and planning of marine resource exploitation under the direction of the Government is urgently necessary to effectively manage these resources.
