Police in the northern province of Hung Yen pressed charges, on Monday, against a local bus driver who crashed into an official vehicle last week, killing a high-ranking official from the Ministry of Public Security and two colleagues.
Police said they will detain the driver, Nguyen Xuan Tinh, 37, for a 4-month period for violating traffic rules.

Tinh’s 47-seat bus was reportedly traveling in the opposite direction of a seven-seat SUV, which carried Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Tu and three colleagues, before it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with the official vehicle.
Nguyen Xuan Tu, deputy head of the ministry’s Force Construction Department, died on the spot at around 7:20 a.m. last Tuesday, just outside Hanoi.
Two other ministry officials traveling with him in the SUV from Hanoi to Hai Phong were also killed; another was injured.
Police say they used data contained in the bus’s black box to assist their investigation.
A source from the ministry’s Road Traffic Department said the officers were on an official trip.
Road accidents kill thousands in Vietnam every year and typically peak during long holidays such as the four-day Independence Day (September 2).
Official figures show that during the first three days of the holiday, from August 30 to September 1, a total of 123 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 66 people and injuring 70 others.
