Nhan Dan Online – The authorities of southern Tra Vinh province on September 15 held a ceremony to begin construction of a sewerage system with an investment of VND172 billion (US$8.1 million) using German official development assistance (ODA).

The sewerage system is the first phase of the Tra Vinh wastewater drainage and treatment project which will be carried out in the 2014-2018 period.

The project has a total investment of EUR17 million (US$22 million) including EUR12 million from German Government ODA, EUR4 million from State budget and the remaining amount from the local budget.

The project aims to handle frequent flooding during the rainy season in low-lying areas in Tra Vinh city. It is also designed to improve and expand sewerage systems and build a wastewater treatment plant in the city in a bid to reduce environmental pollution and enhance urban living standards.
